Feel Energized and Alive

ENERGY BEGETS ENERGY. At one time or another we all wish we had the energy to do everything we’d like to do. For example, “I want to work out but I have no energy and I’m too tired”, “I want to eat healthier but I’m afraid if I eat less I’ll have even less energy than I do now.” We all acknowledge that energy begets energy. Everything that we are and all that surrounds us is comprised of energy. Our goal is to align our bodies, minds and spirits with the life that we deserve to live.

It’s as simple and as difficult as that. If we want to have more energy we have to use more energy. And if we really want to make a big change in our energy, we need to focus on all the areas of our lives that “feed” us. And although we do take in energy from the food we eat, looking at our food intake is not the only way to have more energy in life. In my studies with Integrative Nutrition I learned about the Circle of Life – the ways in which we engage in life. (I’ll go into more detail about that in my next blog) So not only do we examine the types of foods we eat, we look at all the areas in our life that lack the necessary energy to strive.

Here are some ways to expend energy (so in turn you’ll have more energy overall):
1. Start an exercise streak (more on that in a later blog). Find your favorite movement modality and do it for at least 30 minutes 4-5 days a week.
2. Drink Water. Our bodies are made up of 60% water. (some parts more, some less) Start your morning with an 8 oz. glass of water and stay hydrated all day by continuing to drink water. When you do you’ll notice you have more energy and less headaches.
3. Rest. Make sure you are getting enough restful sleep at night. It is recommended that adults should get 7-9 hours of sleep each and every night. It is helpful to set up a healthy sleep schedule by going to sleep and getting up at the same time every day.
4. Spend time outside in the light. We need light to live – we use the light to help us feel more awake. As Dr. Wayne Dyer taught – wake up each morning – look at the sunlight and say “Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.”
5. Eat regularly – I generally eat three meals a day plus two snacks. My healthy snacks make me happy, bring me joy and renew my energy.
6. Spend time with people that bring you joy instead of people who are energy zappers. Allow yourself to laugh out loud with your favorite people, at least once a day.
7. Practice deep breathing. In Sanskrit (the language of yoga) the word for breath work is pranayama – which means – life force or energy source. For example – Sun breath is a very energizing breath. It energizes the nervous system and rejuvenates brain cells. (for directions on how to do Sun Breath – see my Yoga, Mindfulness, and Meditation Tool Box.)
8. Do some yoga. Either an engerzing flow like sun salutation or some simple yoga stretches can be very rejuvenating.

As Queen Latifah says “When my body feels good, I feel more energized an alive, and that’s sexy. I’m taking care of this body, God gave me.” So every day, do the things that you love, use your energy and feel more alive.
